This full day workshop is designed to provide an introduction to Cultural Consensus Analysis (CCA). CCA includes a range of quantitative tools that can be used to estimate cultural beliefs, to identify cultural “experts” in a domain of knowledge, and to identify and to test patterns of agreement and disagreement about these beliefs within and between groups. These methods have been used in a wide range of social science and applied fields and provide tools for estimating both consensus and diversity in cultural beliefs. In this workshop, participants will learn how to collect and model data for analysis using CCA. The workshop will include lectures as well as hands-on exercises using multiple software packages and real data. This session is appropriate for researchers with an interest in CCA methods but with no previous experience and may also provide a refresher for researchers with some experience in CCA methods. Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to use CCA to answer a number of research questions about cultural agreement and disagreement and have a basic understanding of new directions in CCA research. Lunch will be included in your registration.
This workshop involves walking through analyses in UCINET which works on Windows PCs. Please bring a Windows PC laptop to install a complimentary trial version of the software.
